• JANE'S WALK

    Saturday, May 3

    11:00 a.m.

Jane’s Walk is a global movement that organizes free, citizen-led walking tours in communities around the world. Named after the renowned urbanist Jane Jacobs, these walks offer a glimpse into neighbourhoods, highlighting the stories, histories, and issues that define them.

The Huron County Cultural Office has organized walks around the county again this year. The Bayfield Historical Society is participating, thanks to former summer student and continuing volunteer Ben Woodward. Ben, a University of Waterloo graduate student, created a mobile app for exploring local history, using digitized images from the BHS Archives’ collection.

Bring along your mobile phone and explore the history of Bayfield’s Main Street through augmented reality. At the beginning of the tour, everyone will scan a QR code to download the free app, with Ben’s assistance. We’ll walk Main Street and hold up our phones in front of various historic buildings to see what they looked like in the past. Ben looks forward to feedback on the tool’s usefulness for learning about local history and built heritage.

The walk starts at 11 a.m., rain or shine. Meet at the Archives & Heritage Centre on Main Street between 10:45 and 10:55 a.m.

  • BAYFIELD WRITERS SERIES

    May 2 and May 3

    The Little Inn

The Bayfield Writers Series is a new literary initiative dedicated to bringing readers and writers together..

For its 2025 inaugural event, on May 2 & 3rd, The Bayfield Writers Series will spotlight the beloved genre of historical fiction. Four International and New York Times bestselling authors: Madeline Martin, Jennifer Robson, Bryn Turnbull and Heather Marshall are coming to Bayfield to connect with an up-close and collaborative group of writers and readers. Using interactive panel discussions, readings from their captivating novels and interviews, these four masters of the Art of Historical Fiction will share a few of their secrets for writing, researching, and publishing, and maybe even a peek behind what they are working on next.

What better place to host a historical fiction event than The Little Inn in Bayfield? Steeped in history and an iconic setting, The Little Inn has been welcoming guests since 1847 and is the longest continually operating Inn in Ontario. It first served as a stagecoach stop for weary travellers to rest, dine and have a drink, as well as have a place for their horses to rest.

The volunteer organizers are thrilled to share their first event “The Art of Historical Fiction: Where Fact Meets Fiction”, is now sold out! To stay in the know, simply follow @bayfieldwritersseries on Instagram and Facebook for updates and highlights. Also sign up to be added to the monthly email newsletter bayfieldwritersseries@villagebookshop.ca.
